Who is affected?

The VerpackG applies to everyone who first places packaged goods on the German market — regardless of company size, location or sales channel.

Anyone selling via Amazon DE, eBay, Etsy, Kaufland and other platforms to German customers is subject to VerpackG — including companies registered outside Germany.
Sales via Shopify, WooCommerce or any other platform with delivery to Germany require registration. Many mistakenly think the law only applies to marketplaces.
Companies importing goods from China, the US, UK, Turkey and selling in Germany are considered the first to place packaging on the market. Registration is mandatory regardless of the manufacturer's country.
Companies manufacturing products and selling them in packaging to German customers bear direct responsibility — in both B2C and B2B.
VerpackG operates on a territorial principle. British, Chinese, American and other companies selling to Germany have the same obligations as German ones.
With dropshipping, the obligation lies with the seller, not automatically the supplier. What matters is who first places the goods on the German market.
